General Information

Daugavpils Music secondary school of the Ministry of culture of the Republic of Latvia is an educational institution founded by the state in order to implement the professional secondary music education programme, the music education programme of professional field, as well as the general primary education programme (forms 5-9). The aim of secondary school’s activity is to form education environment, to organise and implement education which could provide the achievement of definite tasks put by the state professional secondary education standards, in the state standard of primary education and in the models of music education programmes of professional field.

Daugavpils Music secondary school consists of 3 different structures according to implementation of education programmes.

Music school imlements music education programes of professional field. Students go to school in order to study only music in parallel with receiving general secondary education in general school from the age of 6-13 till the age of 14-19, depending on the chosen education programme. The school functions practically on the state means. Parents’ fee is very little – it makes approximately 5-10% of the state financing amount.

At Music Primary school the students receive education programmes of music professional field, as well as general partial primary education programmes (forms 5-9). Students’ age in this education programme is the following: from 11 (entering school) till 17 (finishing school). Studies are free of charge.

Music secondary school offers music professional programmes of secondary education. The duration of this programme is 4 years. The programes include 3 blocks of study subjects: the professional (for each specialty), the general (the same for all specialties), the common professional (the same for all specialties).

The secondary school has a hostel which all the students can use for a symbolic price if they do not live in Daugavpils.
